One unit of blood can save a life in an emergency, a delivery or an operation – and hospitals in India are often short of it. Blood donation was one of the very first things Sadh Samaj Charitable Trust did after it was registered in 2010, and its members have kept giving since.
Our blood donation camps
- Dec 2010 The trust’s first camp, organised with the Red Cross at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Krishna Nagar, Delhi: 97 units of blood donated to the Red Cross.
- 31 Dec 2011 Blood donation camp at the Nagar Nigam Primary School, Azad Nagar, Delhi.
- 15 Apr 2012 Health and blood donation camp: 65 units donated, and 91 people given free medical tests.
- 21 Jan 2018 Blood donation camp with Moolchand Hospital alongside our mega free health camp at Gurudwara Krishna Market, Lajpat Nagar I, where about 50 units were donated – including by 15–20 women – and more than 675 patients were seen.
Why we hold camps with a free health check-up
Many donors come with their families. By holding blood donation alongside a free health camp, everyone who comes gets something back – a doctor’s check-up, tests and medicines – and more people give blood.
Who can donate
Healthy adults between 18 and 65 years who weigh at least 45 kg can usually donate. The blood bank’s doctor checks every donor before donation. It takes about 15 minutes, and you can have tea and a snack afterwards.
